Techniques and Methods
Integrated physical therapy focusing on pelvic health, incorporates the techniques of Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Technique and exercise for body balancing including Iyengar Yoga, Pilates and Gyrotonics. Jennifer has been training in all these modalities throughout her 40 year career.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity
Practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as Post Traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.
By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms.
Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation is another gentle technique that more directly addresses restrictions of the organs. Not simply abdominal organs but also of the chest and even blood vessels, nerves and bone. This technique releases fascial restrictions of the organs caused by surgery, episodes of inflammation, trauma, stress and other health issues. These restrictions will compromise the ability of the organ to function, Musculoskeletal pain due to restricted movement and nerve and blood vessel dysfunction can also be relieved.
Other Manual Techniques
Myofascial Release is a manual massage like technique to release the fascial restrictions throughout the body, including the pelvic floor. Trigger point release is also helpful
Muscle Energy Technique uses specific positioning with your own muscle action to help realign bones for healthy joints.
Pelvic Therapy
The pelvis is our sacred center of regeneration and clearing. The home for a fetus and the origin of the seeds that create new life. The spine and hips meet the pelvis and have a big influence on it. It is also a place where physical and emotional stress can accumulate.
Physical therapy will help balance all these components especially the bones and muscles of the pelvis and help you gain the strength and coordination needed for optimal function and health. If needed, manual muscle and nerve tension can be released through the vagina and/or anus. Training for proper function can help train the bladder and bowels to function optimally.
Exercises, specifically designed for your body as well as healthy habits of general exercise, diet and self care are essential components of the care you will receive.
Movement Therapies
Iyengar Yoga is a therapeutic technique of yoga that focuses on the practitioners’ self discovery to optimal strength and mobility through yoga positions. The valuable spiritual philosophies are not pursued in our work, but my experience with the method informs the design and training for your home exercise program to achieve your optimal posture and performance.
Pilates Floor Pilates exercises are modified and designed for your needs to strengthen your core muscles including the abdominal, hip and shoulder muscles critical to good posture and function of the pelvic region and throughout the body.
